About Competitions

Competitions are offered in a variety of subjects and at two "Elite" levels of performers between ages four and eighteen. Elite Dance Forum's competitions are held in the following subject areas:

  • Ballet
  • Pointe
  • Tap
  • Jazz
  • Acrobatics
  • Lyrical
  • Modern
  • Vocal
  • Open
  • Hip Hop
  • Pom
  • Musical Theatre
  • Photogenic

Each competition is divided into six distinct categories based on the number of performers:

  • Solo (Maximum of 3/Performer)
  • Duo (2-3 Performers)
  • Small Group (4-9 Performers)
  • Large Group (10-18 Performers)
  • Line (19+ Performers)
  • Production (15+ Performers)

Similarly, age groups are determined based on the following:

  • Preschool (Ages 4-6)
  • Petite (Ages 7-9)
  • Junior (Ages 10-12)
  • Teen (Ages 13-15)
  • Senior (Ages 16-18)

Awards & Scoring

General awards are based on scores and not on placement within a category, making it possible for several gold, silver, or bronze awards to be presented. In addition to these adjudicated placements, we will also be awarding top score placement within each performance category in each age grouping.

300.0 - 289.8 Points
289.2 - 282.0 Points
280.8 - 276.0 Points
274.8 - 264.0 Points
262.8 Points and Under

All special awards will be presented in each age division:

  • Elite Technical Excellence
  • Elite Performance Excellence
  • Elite Choreography Award

Elite Dancer of the Year

All soloists who meet the following criteria will be entered to compete for the title of Elite Dancer of the Year free of charge:

  • All competitors must participate in each of the three complimentary master classes for their age group.
  • An independent panel of judges will score students based on technique, class participation, and presentation.
  • Students may enter a maximum of three (3) solos. The highest score combined with their class score will determine the title winners. All routines entered for title will also be eligible for general high score awards within their age group.
  • All Elite Dancer of the Year competitors must be in proper attire, which includes:
    • Females: Solid, dark bodysuit; pink tights; optional shorts or skirt for tap and jazz classes.
    • Males: White t-shirt, black pants.
  • Each winner will serve as a student representative for the year, which includes, but is not limited to:
    • Public appearances,
    • Assistant teaching at conventions.
  • Elite Dancer of the Year winners will receive a trophy, a crown, and a sash, plus a $100.00 scholarship to their currently enrolled dance school.
